Since its establishment in 2009, the China Center for International Economic Exchanges — which aims to promote international economic research and exchanges and provide consultancy services — has annually published reports on the international and domestic economic situations. This year’s domestic report, China Economic Analysis & Outlook (2017-2018), tracks the changes in China’s economy in 2017 and looks at the prospects for its development in 2018.
On the whole, China’s economic development in 2017, with a 6.9 percent GDP growth rate, was beyond the expectation, presenting an optimistic picture of a trend toward stable growth with improved economic structure, accelerated transfer from the use of traditional energy to that of new energy, and quality development. The report — with five chapters on the macro economy, reform and opening-up, industrial economy, regional, urban and rural development, and other hot topics — delves deeply into the research of China’s economic problems in 2017 and analyzes how these problems have influenced development. It also predicts the future of China’s economy against a backdrop of a globalized environment with many uncertainties and a new normal in China’s economy with favorable conditions, on the basis of which suggestions are given to specific aspects including fiscal and tax reform, pilot free trade zone construction, the Belt and Road Initiative, and cross-Straits trade cooperation.
