Recognition of made-in-China products among foreign consumers is improving, which means domestic companies must improve the quality of their products to keep pace, according to the State Council Development Research Center.

Consumers in the Asia-Pacific region have higher recognition of Chinese goods than those in Europe, the United States and Japan, it said, while young foreigners are more willing to use Chinese products.

The international image of electronics and appliances made in China is more positive than that of food, beverages, pharmaceuticals and clothing, the center's research shows.

Foreign consumers' perceptions of "Made in China" are mainly influenced by local media and word of mouth. To increase recognition globally, the center suggested that the domestic think tanks should seek cooperation with well-known foreign research institutes and conduct surveys on global recognition of "Made in China".

It also urged the domestic brands to work with mainstream media in other countries and enhance recognition of "Made in China" through multilingualism communication.

And the image of "Made in China" can be enhanced by cooperating with foreign brands and markets, said the State Council Development Research Center in its suggestion package.
