Increasing import will bring many benefits to China, Zhao Ping, director of the international trade research department at China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Academy, said in an article published on Economic Daily on May 31.
"Expanding import will help upgrade domestic consumption, attracting the overseas consumption back to China, while lower the risk of business innovation, promoting the country's industrial upgrade," said Zhao. "At present, China's import in consumer goods and service has great potential."
China's import of consumption goods is far less compared with that in the developed countries, while the needs for service import is even more urgent, according to Zhao. She said China should consider importing the services from the Europe, the United States and Japan in field such as education and healthcare.
"The import of foreign services will push domestic companies to innovate, and thus improve the overall competitiveness of the service industry in China."
