The just-concluded G7 was a "melee" where the US became a target for criticism, said Liu Zhiqin, a senior fellow with the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China, in an article published on Global Times. In contrast, Liu continued, at the Qingdao Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization over the past weekend, everyone calmly discussed the core issues of different concerns.

The expert reviewed the SCO’s 17 years of history briefly, and pointed out that the organization emphasizes equality and coordination in solving world issues, which distinguishes it from other transnational organizations. Thanks to China's role as a mainstay, Liu said, the SCO should be the force controlling the chaos and maintaining order.

By joining hands with the Belt and Road Initiative, Liu said, the SCO will provide the strongest impetus for world economic growth and the largest market for Western technological products and services. The potential for future development for all cannot be overlooked, he concluded.
