“The accusation is groundless”, said Wei Jianguo, vice-chairman of the China Center for International Economics Exchanges and former vice-minister ofcommerce, on June 25, in response to recent claims by the United States and some European countries that China forced foreign investors to transfer core technology.
China strictly abides by intellectual property provisions, Wei said. The government and enterprises deny any unjustified accusation against China’s practice in negotiations, Wei added. The protection of intellectual property right is driven by the need of development rather than pushed by the requirements of Western countries, he said.
To enhance market management and intensify the legal protection of IPR, Wei said, the Chinese government imposed stricter intellectual property laws, established trans-provincial intellectual property courts and founded specialized quality supervision teams. More measures are expected in the years to come, he said.
