China Daily: Transparency will help ease panic over vaccine scandal
Updated: 2018-07-23 15:22

The vaccine scandal surrounding the Changchun Changsheng company has sparked heated debate and panic on the internet. The authorities need to release whatever information they know about the incident to the public as soon as possible, as transparency and the truth are the most effective way to keep people's worries at bay and tackle rumors.

Obviously, if not reasonably and transparently handled, this incident could become a public health crisis.

The government should launch an investigation into the case, not only about how the company tampered with the vaccines but also about how loopholes in supervision allowed problematic vaccines onto the market.

And the government needs to act as soon as possible to let the public know it is resolved to address the issue and will punish any wrongdoers without mercy.

Those who make substandard or even fake vaccines need to receive the heaviest penalties according to law. The punishment of those accountable in this incident should mark the return of a healthy vaccine sector.
