In the first half of this year, China’s import and export trade in goods aggregated 14.12 trillion yuan, up 7.9 percent; the trade surplus amounted to 901.32 billion yuan, a 26.7 percent reduction. Since the third quarter of the 2016, China’s trade surplus has experienced a year-on-year narrowing for eight consecutive quarters.
Tu Xinquan, the dean of the China’s WTO Research Institute, University of International Business and Economics, believes that the consecutive narrowing of the trade surplus is the inevitable result of macroeconomic changes in China. It should be noticed that the quality and efficiency of growth impetus of China’s foreign trade sustains an increasing tendency.
Meanwhile, the exports of partial products of equipment manufacturing and the imports of premium consumer goods maintain strong growth.
