As the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is to be held in September, China is welcoming discussion and joint development with African members to create a closer community of shared future for China and Africa. In a recent interview with People’s Daily, African leaders praised this idea.

Paul Kagame, chairman on duty of the African Union and president of Rwanda, highly appreciated President Xi Jinping’s proposal on building a closer China-Africa community. He believes the concept is of great significance as China has brought science, technology, funding and capacity to African countries through cooperation. African countries have also achieved economic development and improved their people's living standards with China achieving its development.

Namibian President Hage Geingob said infrastructure construction in African countries has been developing vigorously with China’s support. Many landlocked states, such as Botswana and Zambia, have been sending exports to nearby coastal areas for sea transportation, which has strongly promoted the process of regional integration. “When people go to Africa, they see a lot of investment projects by Chinese companies; China is also building industrial parks in Africa, transferring technology, creating jobs and adding values to local products,’’ he said. “There is no reason not to welcome countries like China”.

President Macky Sall of Senegal said China is a natural ally of Africa; Africa should also become China’s natural ally as well. Senegal supports the FOCAC and the community of shared future for China and Africa, he said.
