The United States should stop creating tensions on the South China Sea issue and respect the efforts of regional countries to resolve the issue through negotiation and consultation, the Foreign Ministry quoted the ministry spokesman Lu Kang as saying.
China has indisputable sovereignty over the South China Sea islands and their surrounding waters. Like any other country, China carries out peace-building activities on its own territory under international law, including the deployment of defense facilities, exercising the right of self-defense of sovereign states. That has nothing to do with “militarization”.
On the contrary, the US’ frequent deployment of warships and military aircraft near China’s islands and reefs in the South China Sea in recent years represents militarization.
China urges the US to stop undermining China’s sovereignty and security interests and to be a contributor to peace and stability in the South China Sea rather than a destroyer of it.
