The most striking feature of the international situation throughout 2018 is that the old international political, economic and security order created after World War II is in danger of collapse, while the new international order is still in limbo, according to Yuan Peng, president of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations.

The CICIR website quotes Yuan as saying the two major issues facing the Chinese people at this time are how to deepen the reform and opening-up in the new era and how to maintain the stability of Sino-U.S. relations in the new stage.

The historical upheaval is challenging not only China but many other countries, as well. Against this background, what people need is inner peace and calm, and countries need to apply strategic stability and patience, Yuan said.
