We should employee an overall worldwide cooperation strategy, said Jean-Pierre Raffarin, the former Prime Minister of France, at the second Belt and Road Forum, adding that green development and economic communication are mission and vision for all the nations.
Raffarin expressed his view at a high-level seminar “new impetus, wishes and opportunities” on April 28th, immediately following the second “Belt and Road Forum”.
Raffarin believed that the balance between the East and the West is important. And with the construction of infrastructure, Asian, Europe and African are accepted to the system. This conforms to the common pursuit. The silk road is like the artery of the world. It is urgent to enrich the connotation and expand the sectors of the cooperation mechanism as well as to expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges and build stronger public support.
He said that terrorism, populism and unilateralism are not welcomed by the world. Some countries are regardless of the common prosperity and create violence. So the world should do more to open markets and cut down tariffs. The benefits of this are much beyond the development of China.
As for China, it has a unique power, that is trust. With time passed by, we cooperate to establish a worldwide governance model based on collaboration, participation and common interests.
Some European countries are worried about the BRI, concerning whether it is a hegemonism. In fact, it is an enrichment to the local culture and will improve cultural blending. With practical cooperation in various fields, we will inject new impetus.
