On Sept 9, Beijing JM Culture Group and Atlas Hiseas announced the China-Belgium Alliance for Creative Industries and Innovation. A special edition of Belgium-Comfort was released the same day, showing the culture, resource and history of Belgium in innovation areas.

Representatives from the government, embassy, media and innovation companies attended the meeting.

China and Belgium share a favorable relationship and have made fruitful achievements in the past decades. Belgium is China’s seventh-largest business and investment trade partner in Europe. The two sides have cooperated in areas such as chemical, raw material, aerospace, high-tech, life science and cultural exchange.

The China-Belgium Alliance for Creative Industries and Innovation is supported by the Belgian government and provides companies and organizations from China and Belgium a communication platform in the innovation industry and promotes cooperation in advertising, art, fashion, design, film, IoT and artificial intelligence.

“China and Belgium have over four decades of favorable friendship and partnership,” Antonie Delcourt, deputy head of mission at the Embassy of Belgium in Beijing, said. “Establishment of an alliance will promote business communication for companies from both countries. We should learn from each other and gain mutual benefits.”

Wang Jiaming, chairman of Beijing JM Culture Group and initiator of China and Belgium Alliance for Creative and Innovation Industries, agreed. “China and Belgium Alliance for Creative and Innovation Industries will build a platform for China, Belgium and even Europe to exchange ideas and share expertise.” Wang said.

He believes this platform combines advanced technology from Belgium and the Chinese market to promote the innovation industry and strengthen bilateral ties.

Wang Haicheng, executive director of Atlas Hiseas and secretary-general of executive committee of China Arts Festival in the EU, said: “We provide a good platform for communication. Comfort will drive the exchanges between China and Europe in tourism, art, culture and innovation.”

Michel Kempeneers, chief operating officer for overseas export at Wallonia Export-Investment Agency, said: “Wang takes efforts to drive cultural and business exchanges between Walloon and China.”

Kempeneers said the special edition of Belgium-Comfort introduces unique culture and resources to the Chinese market. “We hope the special edition can become a long-term communication channel to make Chinese readers understand Walloon in a better way,” Kempeneers said.

Additionally, Bernard Dewit, president of the Belgian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, said: “China and Belgium have a long history in economic exchange. And Chinese e-commerce and artificial intelligence plays a leading role in the world.”

Dewit believes Belgium and China can learn from each other through this opportunity. Also, Comfort not only shows Belgium to China, it is a good way to help Belgium know China as well.

Two cooperation agreements were signed on that day, including a memorandum of strategic cooperation between China Economic and Trade Commission and the China and Belgium Alliance for Creative and Innovation Industries.
