By Bu Yingna and Wang Zhe | chinawatch.cn | Updated: 2019-09-30 13:02

To mark the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, China Daily's communication-led think tank, China Watch, invited more than 40 Chinese ambassadors to comment on the development of diplomatic relations between China and other countries, and on the great historical process of how China has stepped on to the center of the world stage.

In recent years, by contributing articles in world-renowned media, Chinese ambassadors have taken the initiative to tell the China story, safeguard national interests and discuss global issues. Many of them are also regular contributors to China Watch.

Since last March, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi has contributed exclusive commentaries for China Watch and China Daily Global Edition.

Up to 50 Chinese ambassadors, including Liao Liqiang, ambassador to Egypt and representative to the League of Arab States, Lu Kun, Chinese ambassador to Dominica, and He Yanjun, Chinese ambassador to Comoros, have shed light on topics such as how China fulfills its international responsibility as a major country, the significance of building a community with a shared future for humankind, and the efforts China has made for environmental protection and world peace.

Since August, these articles, accompanied by beautiful illustrations, have been published on the Global Views page of China Daily Global Edition.

Following are their opinions:

He Yanjun, Chinese ambassador to Comoros

“China was the first country to recognize the independence of the Union of the Comoros, as the country is officially called. Since diplomatic ties were established on November 13, 1975, bilateral relations have developed smoothly, with expanding exchanges and increasing cooperation. The malaria project is a good example of this.”

Lu Kun, Chinese ambassador to Dominica

“Sino-Dominican relations are a microcosm of China's relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries. With regard to developing countries, China upholds justice while pursuing shared interests and adheres to mutual respect, equality, mutually beneficial cooperation and common development.”

Liao Liqiang, ambassador to Egypt and representative to the League of Arab States

“Our bilateral ties bear witness to the high value we place on our mission to strengthen friendly relations with other developing countries and turn the Chinese and Egyptian peoples' shared aspirations for a better future into reality.”

Tian Qi, Chinese ambassador to Jamaica

“In my first meeting with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, he proudly recalled the blossoming friendship between China and Jamaica, having been born in 1972, the year the two countries established diplomatic ties. Our meeting proved to be a good start for what has been a most rewarding term in Jamaica.”

Wang Yingwu, Chinese ambassador to Cameroon

“China-Cameroon cooperation was achieved thanks to the support of leaders in both countries. President Xi Jinping pointed out that China has followed the principles of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith and the principle of pursuing the greater good and shared interests.”

Wu Peng, Chinese ambassador to Kenya

“On the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, it is worth hailing robust China-Kenya ties, which mark 56 years of existence this year. Just as China has come far, the partnership between the two peoples has overcome many challenges and is now headed toward greater prosperity.”
